Notes

  • The oceans are intentionally non-cartesian. Besides having currents in some places, they don't match up entirely (by design). For example, if you think of a longitudinal column of sea (say, the Atlantic here on earth, between the equator and Greenland), on the MUD it would look like various size blocks stacked on one another, some 5x5, some 3x5, some 5x2, some 3x3, etc...but the north-south borders always connect in the middle (so always at a point). The same effect East-West. A good captain can learn how to pilot the seas, and when they need to travel further one direction or another. A young captain has to learn the seas. It also provides a lot more use for the various sailor abilities.
