Premise

Clerics are the disciples of the deities, and spread the word and faith of the deities across the world. In turn for their fidelity, clerics are provided powerful divine prayers in accordance with their order's practice.

Clerics may use their prayers without selecting a deity, but selecting an appropriate deity to the cleric's goals can greatly enhance gameplay. While it is possible to REBUKE a deity and select a new deity, doing so will come at a cost to the cleric in both experience and relationship to that deity. The Cleric subclass has access to prayers options from all alignments/inclinations. Auto-granted cleric abilities are based on the cleric's current alignment/inclination.

Playability

Clerics, as a whole, are a moderately difficult class to play. Their armor, martial prowess, and prayers make them easy to gear up. Worshipping a deity provides substantial benefits when appropriately selected. However, their prayer usage requires them to maintain their alignment (and to a lesser degree, inclination) to retain effectiveness. This alignment dependency may impeded leveling opportunities until you find the right locations to effectively level.

  • Cleric - While the cleric may be of any alignment and any inclination, certain prayers will not function properly if the cleric is of an opposed alignment/inclination. Additionally, deity selection should be considered for the entire career of the cleric. If your cleric is going to ambulate between alignments/inclinations, chose a deity that will accept that behavior. Having both Good and Evil prayers can be useful, or swapping from Good to Evil for a certain level range may be desired for completing certain areas or quests, but being rebuked by your deity for doing so may not be worth the pain. Additionally, spreading out your focus on multiple prayer types is expensive from a TRAIN and EXPERTISE perspective.
  • Doomsayer - This is one of the easiest clerics to level, with lots of damaging evil prayers.
  • Healer - Healers are one of the most sought after clerics for group mechanics. Their healing capability is unrivaled amongst any class. However, they can be slow to level during solo play.
  • Missionary
  • Necromancer - The necromancer is probably the most challenging cleric subclass to play, requiring the understanding of many in-game systems to properly build and manage your undead army. Be prepared to understand concepts like group combat, ordering followers, group size limitations, feeding experience to your newly animated undead, equiping your undead, suffering through ruined items when your undead die, the effects of expertise on raising your undead, unique world-related necromancer training opportunities, and many other concepts. Necromancers can be powerful early on, but after you lose your undead army, you may feel very offput trying to rebuild it to its former glory.
  • Oracle
  • Purist
  • Shaman
  • Templar - The Templar may be the easiest cleric to level, since he can create his own gear at an early level (although time consuming, and must be replicated every few levels to maintain relevance). The Templar has great passive martial abilities, and many prayers to enhance their combat potential.

Notes

  • If you wish to use the PRAY social as a cleric (or any class with prayers), then precede the command with the forced-social command (comma) like ,PRAY.
