This matrix will show which areas have been balanced with special features to make the area interesting(either modified to post-combat adjustment standards, or original CoffeeMUD areas). Balanced areas should offer the BASIC level of completion for an area from the completeness matrix, and include most of the following features.
Conquest, Traps, Special Mobs, Ranged Mobs, Area Intro Quests, Quests, Unique items
- Status - This field should be rated as BALANCED, COFFEEMUDIFIED, PLAYABLE, UNSURE, UNPLAYABLE or INCOMPLETE.
- Balanced areas should have at least three of the special features listed below.
- Coffeemudified means that the area isn't still being developed, although it may get added features later. It should have all appropriate area blurbs and a decent description. Coffeemudified areas should also have a wiki page, even if that page is intentionally blank, such as Swamp Ruins.
- Playable means that the area is well balanced and generally in good shape, but missing a few key features.
- Unsure simply means that the area hasn't been assessed for this report. It may be Playable or Unplayable, but probably isn't COMPLETE.
- Unplayable means that the area has serious balance issues, and may result in lowbies randomly dying to high level mobs.
- Incomplete means that the area is still in development.
- Focal - This is the staff member responsible for maintaining/building the area.
- Area Name - This is the name of the area.
- Conquest - YES/NO as to whether this area is conquerable through the conquest system.
- Traps - A ranking of how hazardous this area is without a trapper:
- Deadly - This area has lots of traps that are potentially lethal if not disarmed
- High - This area has a considerable number of traps. Death due to traps may occur if not careful.
- Medium - This area has several traps. Having a trapper is encouraged.
- Low - This area has few, mostly non-lethal traps.
- None - This area is trap free.
- MOBs - Does this area have interesting MOBs, if so, what type:
- Boss - Area has one (or more) MOBs that are a tough fight for their level. Boss MOBs often have higher resistances, armor, damage and hit points than other MOBs, and offer more XP per kill.
- Special - Special MOBs have behaviors that make them harder to kill. Normally this will be added abilities or classness and offer more XP per kill.
- Ranged - MOBs that use ranged weapons or abilities. Ideally, each area should have 1-2 ranged MOBs per 20 MOBs in the area.
- Stealth - MOBs that are hidden or invisible.
- Quests - This field is for documenting quests, tasks, scripts and achievements in the area. If the area has multiples of any of the following, just add an 's', but do not specify quantity.
- Intro - A quest that directs a player to this area from another area (probably an inn in a city)
- Area - A quest that can be picked up and completed in the area.
- Task - A scripted action that provides some sort of reward, but isn't a quest (doesn't count as a quest win nor reward QP).
- Achieve - An area-specific achievement.
- Items - This lists special items in the area. Use the pattern [alignment] [inclination] [classname] [armortype] [wearlocation] [weapontype] for different type of powerful items in the area. Only include parameters that are meaningful for the item in question. For example, if there is a powerful eye replacement in the area that can only be worn by evil players, use EVIL GENLIMB EYES. If there is a powerful cloth bracer, use CLOTH WRIST. No need to specify class unless the item requires a specific class. Sure pirates would love that eye, but if it isn't restricted to them, then don't list it.
