Retainers are a special type of follower which the leader pays for their services. If placed on AUTOGUARD on property owned by the leader, the retainer will stay on that property and draw his pay from the owner's bank account until dismissed, but the retainer can be removed from the owner's group without causing him to be dismissed.
Hiring
When you enter the room with a retainer, they may announce their availability for work. If you wish to hire them, simply provide them with an amount of money equal to their rate. Providing more money at any time will extend their length of service. Once hired, they become a follower, and obey the normal rules of following, including being subjected to the ORDER command. Retainers may be placed on Autoguard on privately owned property by the player hiring them, and removed from the group. They will remain in place, drawing their pay from the player's local bank account each pay period until dismissed.
Retainers often sell their services through an intermediary shopkeeper.
- SAYTO (retainer name) REPORT SKILLS will cause the potential retainer to report out any abilities they have. You may do prior to hiring them.
- If a pay period passes without the mob finding a bank account of the owners with sufficient funds, or the retainer is not on personal property at the start of a new pay period, they will quit and disappear.
- Logging out without taking your retainer to your private property will cause the retainer to quit and disappear.
